Course description

THE COURSE DATES Module 1: August 27 – 30, 2020 Module 2: November 19 – 21, 2020 Module 3: March 03 – 06, 2021 In recent decades, considerable progress has been achieved in the field of equine anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative care. New developments in the design of more sophisticated anesthesia machinery, introduction of new drugs and anesthetic protocols, and establishment of technically advanced methods of monitoring and maintaining vital functions during anesthesia, have allowed to significantly reduce perioperative morbidity and mortality, which in the past had been reported to be significantly higher in the equine as compared to small animal species. At the same time, expectations and demand for improved anesthesia and analgesia care have increased within the entire horse industry. Therefore, advanced education of both veterinarians and veterinary technicians in all aspects of equine anesthesia and analgesia is necessary to satisfy the growing expectations of both the veterinary community and animal owners and to optimize equine health care in the future. The course program is directed towards veterinarians and credentialed veterinary technicians with a focused interest in equine anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative care. The 3-module course combines traditional methods of teaching in the seminar room and workshops with the new methods of learning using computer simulations, demonstrations with the help of digital image and data recordings from the operating room and webinars for self-study at home. The training committee of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA), responsible for further and advanced training, has endorsed the program and judged the course after thorough examination as high-quality basic and advanced training for the horse practitioner. The Academy of Veterinary Technicians in Anesthesia & Analgesia (AVTAA) also endorsed the program and accepts successful completion of this program as having fulfilled all CE requirements necessary for submission of credentials to the AVTAA. The registration fee for the course is US-$ 300.00 and is due at the time of registration. The tuition fee for the course is US-$ 3,600.00 and must be paid following registration confirmation.
