RECOVER CPR INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION COURSE

For: Vets and techs

1 day, from November 22, 2019 to November 22, 2019

Course description

Evidence-based veterinary CPR guidelines published by the RECOVER Initiative in 2012 provide recommendations on how to perform CPR in dogs and cats (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/toc/14764431/22/s1). To advance implementation of these guidelines in clinical practice the RECOVER initiative developed a CPR certification process approved by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC) and endorsed by the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS). This session is targeted at veterinary professionals interested in becoming certified RECOVER CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructors who are approved to certify veterinarians and veterinary technicians in the RECOVER BLS and ALS Rescuer certification process. You will learn how to conduct the BLS and ALS in-person certification courses and appropriately perform assessments to certify others in BLS and ALS. Thus, this course is best suited for those that deliver CPR training for veterinary professionals on a regular basis (e.g., at least twice yearly). The prerequisites for the instructor certification course are the successful completion of the RECOVER CPR BLS and ALS online courses and the in-person BLS and ALS certification courses, and you will need to provide proof of completion prior to beginning of the instructor course. The workshop will start with learning how to run a hands-on BLS certification workshop with CPR manikins. You will also learn how to run the BLS assessment scenarios and to certify others in BLS. You will then practice conducting the RECOVER hands-on ALS certification workshop with a canine patient simulator running a series of CPR simulations, and ultimately a final "mega-code" certification simulation. You will then learn how to set up the ALS simulator and how to run the certification scenarios and conduct the assessments for certification of others in ALS. We will discuss the different simulation environment/options that are currently available for veterinary CPR training and review some overall principles of simulation-based training and debriefing. By participating in this course and becoming a certified RECOVER instructor, you will gain access to all the RECOVER teaching resources (e.g., power point presentations, scenarios, assessment sheets) to facilitate your CPR certification/training activities. Instructors: Manuel Boller, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVECC, Melbourne (AUS) & Sabrina Höhne, DVM, Dipl. ACVECC, Dipl. ECVECC, Berne (CH) Course Fees: € 500.-- plus 19 % VAT (where applicable). Prerequisite for admission to workshop: successful completion of the Basic (BLS) and Advancedl Life Support (ALS) e-learning and in-person courses • Registration deadline: 30 SEPT 2019 (maximum 12 participants) For more details and registration please upload the registration form found below under Course Program.
