Clinical Schooling of Vets & Vet Techs in Clinical Training Center: Practice of Anesthesia & Perioperative Analgesia in Small Animals

For: DVMs, RVTs, AHTs, LAT, AHTs

almost 4 years, from November 25, 2018 to October 25, 2022

Course description

The training program offers participants who already acquired basic and advanced small animal anesthesia knowledge the opportunity to spend a 5 or 10-day externship in a small animal referral center with the intent of strengthening their skill set and anesthetic performance by providing anesthesia and analgesia care in companion animals under the direct supervision of a board-certified anesthesiologist. The goal is to help course participants apply what they learnt in the disciplines of anesthesia, perioperative analgesia and critical patient care so far. This involves the entire anesthetic management from pre-anesthetic patient and risk assessment to pre-anesthetic preparation of patients up to recovery from anesthesia and advanced techniques of perioperative analgesia. The training center is a clinical facility with state-of-the-art equipment and technologies including modern-day anesthesia work stations and all monitoring modalities available. Trainees will provide anesthesia and perioperative analgesia care in small animal patients under direct supervision of a board-certified anesthesiologist, receiving one-on-one instructions and immediate feed-back from the specialist. This creates a most efficient learning environment in which trainees will strengthen their clinical skills and knowledge base and develop the self-confidence needed for rational decision making when delivering high quality anesthesia care in patients with more complex health conditions or undergoing more complex surgical, diagnostic, or therapeutic interventions. Below the example of a 1-2 week training program can be downloaded, but these programs can be modified based on individual trainees' needs.
